NEEDHAM, Ind. — A Greenwood man is dead after falling through ice in a Johnson County pond.
The Johnson County sheriff identified the victim as Brian Persinger, 43.
Deputies say Persinger went to a home construction site on County Road 350 North in the Needham area, and his wife called police after she was unable to find him.
Officers found footprints on ice in the pond, and the Johnson County Dive Team was called. The man’s body was found in the pond.
Police believe Persinger was attempting to get his dogs off of the ice when he fell through. The dogs have not been located.
“This is one of those incidents that we hate to see happen, but it is important for the public to know that there are people who put their lives on the line in some very dangerous situations,” said Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox. “This is a terrible tragedy, and our condolences are with his family.”
