GREENWOOD, Ind.—Bartholomew County Deputy Matthew Miller was off-duty when he helped catch a woman who stole merchandise from Gander Mountain in Greenwood, police said.
Miller saw the woman being chased by a store employee in the parking lot and then trying to put the stolen items in a car.
Miller pulled his vehicle in front of the suspect’s car and tried to stop her from leaving. Authorities say the suspect tried to get away, even attempting to back over him and dragging the officer until Miller could get free.
The suspect fled the parking lot and later crashed into two other vehicles before running on foot. Greenwood police were able to arrest the suspect near Valle Vista Golf Course.
Stephanie N. Rogers, 23, of Indianapolis, was booked into the Johnson County Jail facing charges of theft, criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement and leaving the scene of a crash.
