COLUMBUS, Ind. — Firefighters rescued two pets while extinguishing a house fire that damaged a home for the second time in two years.
The Columbus Fire Department responded to the fire in the 2100 block of 23rd Street around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Firefighters entered the home and found two dogs, including one in a cage, which they safely removed from the home.
Investigators determined a wood burning stove caused the blaze and have ruled the fire accidental. No injuries were reported.
This marks the second fire in two years at the house. In March 2014, a fire caused significant damage and a pet dog and pet cat were killed. A Columbus police officer also suffered a dog bite while trying to rescue the occupants to safety. The fire was caused by a space heater.
