COLUMBUS, Ind. — One person was flown to the hospital following two crashes on Interstate 65 about 10 miles south of Columbus Monday afternoon.
Indiana State Police troopers say the first accident involved a semi that went into the median. The second crash occurred when a trucker failed to stop for traffic that had slowed due to the previous crash.
The Volvo semi collided with the rear of a Freightliner. The Volvo ran off the road and struck a guardrail before stopping on the shoulder of the interstate.
The driver, Timothy Eric Lill, 37, of Alberta, Canada, was trapped in the Volvo and was later flown to an Indianapolis hospital. Lill suffered serious injuries that are not believed to be life threatening, troopers said.
No other injuries were reported.
The northbound lanes of I-65 were shut down for about two and a half hours. The crash investigation is ongoing.
