NORTH VERNON, Ind. — A Scottsburg man was arrested after leading police on a chase in southern Jennings County because he did not want a speeding ticket.
Roger J. Napier, 42, is charged with resisting arrest, reckless driving and speeding.
A deputy spotted Napier speeding on County Road 500S around 5 a.m. Thursday. Napier refused to pull over and traveled at speeds over 100 mph, police said.
Napier tried to make a right turn when he overshot a county road and entered the parking lot of the Commiskey Corner Store. The car eventually left the roadway and stopped in a field.
“Napier said he ran from police because he didn’t want a speeding ticket,” said Jennings County Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Lt. Mike Mowery.
