COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus firefighters were able to rescue a man’s pets from a house fire Thursday night.
The fire department responded to the residential blaze in the 2100 block of Park Avenue around 9 p.m.
Firefighters rushed into the home after getting reports of occupants inside. While searching the house they were notified of the pets.
Fifteen cats and three dogs were rescued from the home. One cat died in the fire and another suffered breathing problems.
“Whether it’s people or pet’s, seconds matter when exposed to the noxious gases produced in today’s modern fires. The men did an outstanding job of halting the progress of this fire and rescuing the pets,” said Battalion Chief Dan Cleland.
Nobody else was injured. The electrical fire was determined an accident.
