COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Columbus police officer helped subdue a man who was intoxicated and had a stun gun, police said.
Police received a report around 1:15 p.m. Saturday of a possibly intoxicated driver who had crashed near 31st Street.
An officer arrived and saw Christopher O. May, 25, of North Vernon, flailing his arms while holding a stun gun. The officer held May at gunpoint and ordered him to drop the stun gun, but May refused, police said.
While May was distracted, the officer holstered his firearm and moments later discharged his Taser at May, however, it was not effective.
May then allegedly advanced towards the officer with his stun gun activated. The officer was able to reload the Taser and take May to the ground.
Witnesses told police that May had threatened them with the stun gun before police arrived.
May allegedly kicked an officer in the neck while getting a blood draw at the hospital.
He was booked into jail on charges of OWI, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting law enforcement, intimidation, intimidation of a police officer and criminal recklessness.
