COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to launch its $8.4 million paving and bridge projects on U.S. 31 in Bartholomew and Jackson counties next week.
Travel delays will begin Monday at the U.S. 31 Sand Creek bridge in advance of removal of the structure scheduled for April.
Crews will start replacing pavement under CSX’s railroad bridge March 21. Alternate routes will be posted during the anticipated five-day closure.
Demolition and replacement of the U.S. 31 bridge at Sand Creek is slated for April 4. The section of road will be closed for approximately 240 days.
Other work has been scheduled at Quade Ditch on U.S. 31 and County Road 400S. No decision has been made about construction of the U.S. 31 roundabout for this year.
