NORTH VERNON, Ind.— Two Jennings County Sheriff’s Department vehicles were involved in a crash early Tuesday morning, sending both deputies to hospitals for treatment of the injuries sustained.
Both deputies were on patrol and investigating a possible reckless driving incident around 4:30 a.m. Reserve Deputy Jason Littrell, 34, attempted to make a u-turn on State Road 750 when he pulled into the path of a patrol car driven by Deputy Thomas Mellencamp, 24. The front of Mellencamp’s vehicle struck the driver’s side of Littrell’s vehicle.
Mellencamp was transported to Jennings County St. Vincent Hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries. Littrell was transported to Jennings County St. Vincent before being transferred to St. Vincent-Indianapolis by medical helicopter for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.
