VERSAILLES, Ind. — A device that could be a breakthrough for opioid addicts is being tested in several Indiana counties. Locally, the apparatus is available at the Community Health Center of Jackson County on Chestnut Street in Seymour.
Versailles-based Innovative Health Solutions is manufacturing a device called “The Bridge.” The instrument is a pain-blocker that sends an electrical pulse to the base of the brain to reduce pain associated with withdrawal. To be effective the device must be part of a total treatment protocol.
Vice president of sales, Brian Carrico says “The Bridge” helps people get through the initial phase of detoxification. Addicts use it for five days then return to the clinic for a shot of vivitol. Addicts then return for regular counseling. Vivitol is a drug used to treat opioid and alcohol dependence.
The device costs about $500.
