BROWNSTOWN, Ind. — Two Columbus men were seriously hurt in an accident in a Jackson County construction zone Thursday at 4:50 p.m.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department says Rick Walker, 52, of Columbus, was eastbound on U.S. 50 near County Road 200W and was unable to stop due to slowed traffic. Walker hit the rear of a vehicle driven by Troy Carroll, of Brownstown. The impact caused Carroll to hit the vehicle in front of him driven by Gregory Lucas, 56, which caused Lucas to hit a fourth vehicle driven by Alan Dalton, 66, of Bedford.
Walker was trapped in his vehicle that came to rest about 150 feet from the impact. Walker was flown to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis with head and leg injuries. A passenger, Charles Sidwell, 63, also of Columbus, was flown to a Louisville hospital for treatment. A passenger in Carroll’s vehicle, Sarah Cravens, 26, complained of neck pain and was transported to a local hospital. Lucas and Dalton were not injured.
The accident remains under investigation.
