GREENSBURG, Ind. — A 6-year-old Decatur County girl is recovering after being struck by lightning Tuesday.
The girl was outside a relative’s home in the 1300 block of County Road 1100W when the incident occurred. The girl’s grandmother immediately called 911 for help and was coached by dispatchers on how to give CPR. She performed the life saving measure until emergency responders arrived at the scene. Members of the Westport Community Volunteer Fire Department continued CPR upon arrival. After four rounds of CPR the girl began breathing.
The child was taken to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon and then transported to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. She is listed in critical condition.
