COLUMBUS, Ind. — Cummins Inc. has announced plans to produce three new engines that are designed to 2017 emissions and fuel economy standards.
The X series will include two versions of the X15 to be offered next year and the X12 that is scheduled for production in 2018.
The new engines are designed with an optimized compression ratio, air handling system, and cam profile to fuel efficiency and performance. Company officials say the engines have faster response, more braking power than ever before, and will help fleets retain their best drivers. The engines will be put through 9 million test miles before production, in Jamestown, New York, begins in early 2017.
The engines will be equipped with Cummins exclusive Connected Diagnostic system. The system uses the electronic control module and telematics system to process fault code data that will send immediate notifications from Cummins describing the probable cause and recommended actions.
