BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A Bloomington business that held an event supporting law enforcement officers was targeted by vandals.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department is looking for persons responsible for painting “Tamir Rice” on the building the day Jump-N-Joey’s was to host a National Night Out event. The business is located on North Curry Pike. Rice was a 12-year-old boy shot by police in Cleveland in 2014. At the time of the shooting, Rice was holding a realistic looking pellet gun. Columbus, Indiana passed a law banning the look-a-like toys in 2013.
The owner of Jump-N-Joeys said he was shocked and disappointed to be targeted for doing something good for the community. Bloomington police captain Steve Kellams says they are trying hard to help in the community. The owner says he’s very thankful for all community members that came out to help clean up the mess.
