EDINBURGH, Ind. — Four people from Tennessee were arrested after a grab-and-run theft and pursuit at the Edinburgh Outlet Mall Thursday night.
While enroute to the Michael Kors store around 8:15 p.m., Edinburgh Police observed a car matching the description in the theft report and attempted a traffic stop. The car failed to comply and a chase into Brown County resulted. The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, Columbus Police, Brown County Sheriff’s deputies, Nashville Police, and Indiana Conservation officers all participated in the pursuit.
During the pursuit police say the vehicle, driven by Juwan Williams, 26, of Nashville, Tennessee, attempted to cause accidents with other vehicles. A Bartholomew County Sheriff’s car was damaged in an accident while trying to protect the public and end the pursuit. Later, Williams hit a vehicle near State Roads 46 and 135 and came to a stop. All the suspects refused to cooperate. Juwan Williams told police, “In a few weeks I’ll have a new car and be out robbing you again and won’t get caught.”
A report from the Edinburgh Police Department says the chase started when four subjects entered the store and took 30 to 40 purses and fled. The crime took about 10 seconds to commit.
The other three occupants of the vehicle were identified as Benji Amos, 20, of Nashville, Tennessee, Tiara Moore, 23, of Nashville, Tennessee, and a 17-year-old from Memphis, Tennessee. All four suspects complained of pain and were taken to Columbus Regional Health. One Bartholomew County deputy and one Brown County deputy were also transported to Columbus Regional Health for treatment.
The four individuals are also suspects in other similar crimes reported in the area.
Mugshots for Amos and Moore were not available at press time.
