COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Bartholomew County Emergency Operations Center was struck by lightning Wednesday at 3:36 p.m. No injuries were reported, but the 911 system was disabled. The staff followed established protocols and rerouted emergency calls to Johnson County.
Technicians from AT&T worked through the night in order to restore all dispatch systems. It is not believed that there is any physical damage to the tower on Cherry Street, but phone system and computer components were impaired. Parts from as far away as Gary and Indianapolis were transported to Columbus to fix the equipment.
As of 7:45 a.m. Thursday, all emergency and administrative systems were functioning properly.
