TAYLORSVILLE, Ind. — A North Vernon man was seriously hurt in a series of accidents that closed the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 near Taylorsville for five hours Tuesday afternoon.
Around 1 p.m., traffic was already slowed due to a previous crash, when a truck driven by Shawn Beeman, 35, of North Vernon, was unable to slow down and hit another truck driven by Patrick Russell, 54, Campbellsville, Kentucky. The impact caused Russell’s truck to hit a car driven by Kelli Buckley, 39, of Trafalgar.
Beeman had to be extricated by Columbus firefighters and was transported to Columbus Regional Health, and then to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital with possible head injuries. Russell and Buckley were not injured.
The interstate was reopened around 6 p.m. The investigation is continuing.
