COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department arrested a burglary suspect with the help of an off duty Columbus Police officer.
On Friday, August 27, at 2:50 p.m., a woman in the 7000 block of County Road 300S made a 911 call because of a man attempting to open her front door. Next, the woman heard someone in her kitchen. The woman retrieved a handgun, went to the kitchen and observed the suspect, Darrik Burton, 33, of Columbus, looking through a lunch bag. When Burton saw her he fled the residence.
Later that day, an off duty Columbus police officer saw a man matching the description given by dispatch walking along County Road 400W. The woman made a positive identification of Burton and he was arrested and charged with residential entry. Burton is still being held in lieu of a $257,500 bond.
Burton is also a suspect in another residential entry at 12:10 p.m. that day in the 6000 block of State Road 46 West.
