COLUMBUS, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College has received a $74,724 grant that will enable the organization to extend the IGrad program to Jennings County. The program prepares students for careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education grant will create Career and College Readiness Coaches in the schools to mentor students in STEM-related subjects. Local business and industry has identified STEM education as a critical need for new and potential employees.
The IGrad program identifies and removes barriers for students that could limit academic success. The program is designed to provide students with academic, social and other support needed to graduate from high school and enter a post-secondary institution. IGrad was launched in Bartholomew County in 2012. The program is supported by Ivy Tech Community College, Cummins Inc., the Community Education Coalition, the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation, Flat Rock Hawcreek schools, and the Heritage Fund.
