GREENWOOD, Ind. — An inmate in the Marion County Jail is the prime suspect in an armed robbery in Johnson County.
On Friday, August 26, at 11 p.m., police allege Thomas Michael William Kaufman entered the Speedway Convenience Store on Smith Valley, jumped over the counter, pushed the employee out of the way and took $20 from the cash drawer. The employee was not injured in the incident. Kaufman is also a suspect in the robbery of a Speedway store minutes before in Mooresville. Kaufman had been arrested for other charges and was being held in Marion County.
Johnson County detectives traveled to Marion County to interview Kaufman. During the interview he admitted to robbing the store to fuel his heroin addiction and asked police to apologize to the clerk for him.
