NINEVEH, Ind. — A Chicago man is in Johnson County Jail facing resisting arrest charges following a burglary investigation at a Nineveh home.
A resident in the 7000 block of Centerline Drive called police after she returned from the gym and noticed her front door had been forced open. Police cleared the home and found a firearm, fire safe, gun safe and a laptop were missing. Incidents in the recent past made the homeowner suggest the neighbors may have been involved.
As police investigated the outside area of the neighbor’s house, they noticed the fire safe near the homeowner’s mailbox and a camper just across the property line in the neighbor’s yard. As police approached the camper they heard the voices of two males and one female, and began questioning them. A background check determined the female, Marilyn Bowers was wanted in Lake County, Florida for cocaine possession. Florida authorities would not extradite Bowers, so she was not detained. The two males had no outstanding warrants.
At the same time, Princes Lakes police chief attempted to make contact with a man later identified as Joshua Morales. 23, of Chicago, but he fled and ran into a wooded area. Police unsuccessfully attempted a canine track near Howard Prince Drive and County Road 775S. Later, employees of a local hardware store told police a man matching the description of the person who fled from police was there asking how to get to Brown County. Employees told police the subject was acting strange so they gave him a bottle of water and asked him to leave. Morales was captured a short time later.
Morales is being held in the Johnson County Jail for resisting law enforcement pending the outcome of the burglary investigation.
