COLUMBUS, Ind. — Commuters will notice Phase I of the State Street improvement project getting underway in Columbus soon.
Construction pre-warning signs will go up this week. Next week, the eastbound side will be reduced to one lane and the intersection of State Street and McKinley Avenue will be closed. That closure is expected to last until December 16, 2016.
This part of Phase I will include widening the westbound walkway to 10-feet, and installation of a cable system to protect pedestrians. As weather permits, crews will widen the westbound walkway to 6-feet and install a cable protection system following completion of work on the westbound side.
The $2.1 million project includes new lighting and is being done by Columbus-based Force Construction Company, Inc. All work is scheduled to be complete in May 2017.
