COLUMBUS, Ind. — The city of Columbus has nixed the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. In the past the ceremony has been the official start of the holiday season and included recognition for the families that donated the trees at city hall and the Commons. All decorations in downtown Columbus, including the Christmas tree, will be illuminated Friday, November 25.
City officials have cited timing of the QMIX Musical Fireworks and changes to the Festival of Lights parade route as the reason for the decision.
