EDINBURGH, Ind. — There were no serious injuries reported in a train/SUV crash on County Road 800 North near the Edinburgh Outlet mall Thursday morning. German Township fire officials say the SUV was eastbound on County Road 800 North and pulled in front of the northbound train. The train struck the vehicle on the passenger side and pushed it about 100 yards. The SUV ended up overturned on the driver’s side.
This is the second accident recently involving a train and officials are urging extreme caution. Motorists should be aware that there are no crossing arms in German Township which means drivers have to check both ways for traffic. Not only do trains travel faster than they appear, because of the extreme weight they require a long distance to stop.
