COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Columbus Fire Department has determined the auditorium fire Monday morning at Columbus North High School was accidental.
School staff found several seats ablaze around 7:44 a.m. They began using fire extinguishers, and summoned CFD. After three fire extinguishers were emptied, the fire was out.
Investigators have determined the blaze was caused by an overhead light bulb blowing, and sending super-heated glass onto to the auditorium chairs below. About 25 seats were damaged. Firefighters remained on the scene until 10:22 a.m. to get the smoke out of the building.
The Columbus Philharmonic event scheduled for this Sunday has been moved to the Columbus East High School Robbins Auditorium at 3 p.m.
