WASHINGTON D.C. — The Electoral College has elected Donald Trump the 45th President of the United States with 304 electoral votes.
Despite intense efforts of activists to convince Trump electors to switch their votes only two did not act on the will of the voters. Electors had reported receiving thousands of emails and hundreds of letters stating Trump was unfit to serve and the vote should be cast for another candidate. There were five Clinton electors that did not fulfill the will of the people.
A Democratic elector in Maine attempted to cast a vote for Bernie Sanders but it was ruled improper. That vote was switched to Clinton. Another Democrat in Minnesota was replaced after he tried to vote for Sanders. A Republican elector was replaced in Colorado after he attempted to vote for Ohio governor John Kasich. Washington state was the biggest surprise, as Colin Powell received three votes and “Faith Eagle Spotted Owl” received one vote. Clinton was credited with the balance of eight electoral votes.
Congress will certify the results in session on January 6, 2017.
