FRANKLIN, Ind. — Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox and the Johnson County prosecutor have released more details in the murder of Andrew Perry.
Reports indicate Perry was living with a woman who had been previously involved with the suspect, Joseph Evan Avart. Perry had filed two harassment reports against Avart in the weeks before his death.
During the investigation, Avart admitted that he was infatuated with the girl and began to stalk Perry. Avart told police he followed Perry and made threatening phone calls to him in the past. During a voluntary interview, Avart initially denied any involvement in the killing.
As the interview continued and after confronting Avart with inconsistencies in his story, he eventually admitted to being at the home on December 2, and killing Perry. Joseph Evan Avart has been charged with the murder of Andrew Perry.
