CORTLAND, Ind. — Less than one week before Christmas, a fire has destroyed the home of a Seymour police officer. DARE officer Gilbert Carpenter, his wife Amy, and their two high school aged children are uninjured, but they have lost their belongings. Carpenter was able to retrieve their pets and some Christmas gifts, but that was it. The fire at the home in the Cortland area was reported at 3:18 a.m. Monday.
So far, fund raising efforts have resulted in more than $10,000 in cash, gift cards, clothes and basic needs. The family of Gilbert Carpenter is very grateful for the outpouring of support.
Donations to the Carpenter family can be made at gofundme.com/officer-carpenter or gofundme.com/help-amy-and-gilbert.
On Thursday there will be a fundraiser at Celebrations at 6 p.m., admission is $6. To reserve a table please call 812-569-0287.
