COLUMBUS, Ind. — A kitchen fire disrupted the Christmas holiday for a Columbus family over the weekend. On Christmas Eve, firefighters were called to the 5100 block of Imperial Drive, where once on the scene, they detected a smoky smell.
The homeowner told first responders she was baking cookies just before she smelled smoke. The smoke led the homeowner to a cabinet, and when she opened it, flames had already filled the inside of the cabinet. The homeowner called 911, and then fled the home with her dog.
Firefighters used a thermal imaging system to identify and quickly attack the source of the blaze.
No injuries were reported, and damage was estimated at $30,000. The investigation is ongoing.
