COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police arrested one person after a two-and-a-half hour standoff Thursday.
Law enforcement officers observed Miguel Juan Rivas, 29, standing near a residence in the 700 block of Werner Avenue around 4 p.m. When Rivas saw police he quickly entered the residence.
After determining Rivas had multiple warrants for his arrest, several weapons and possibly a machine gun, SWAT and crisis negotiators were called to the scene. After long negotiations via phone, Rivas surrendered at 6:30 p.m.
Rivas has been charged with possession of a machine gun, possession of a handgun without a license, possession of a syringe, possession of a controlled substance, and driving without ever obtaining a license.
