GREENWOOD, Ind. — District 36 Indiana Republican Senator Jack Sandlin is under fire for comments he posted on social media regarding the women’s march on Washington D.C. over the weekend. The comments were removed shortly after the firestorm of criticism began. The post read as follows, “In one day, Trump got more fat women out walking, than Michelle Obama did in eight years.”
Sandlin is a first year senator that represents people in the Greenwood and posted this after removing the comment, “Apparently there is an offensive post on Facebook that’s attributed to me about women in Washington marching,” Sandlin wrote. “Not sure how that ended up on my Facebook wall but that certainly does not reflect my opinion of women. People who know me will know that’s not my view.” By mid-morning Monday Sandlin had received more than 1000 comments on social media regarding the post. Sandlin has not verified that he was the one that posted the comment.
Indiana Democrat party leader, Brittany Solis released a statement asking Hoosiers to call the Republican leadership to tell them his explanation and apology are not enough and said in part, “We cannot allow this sort of sexism to continue any longer. Now is the time to demand justice.”
Sandlin is a 20-year veteran and former deputy chief of the Indiana Metropolitan Police Department, and also served as a Lieutenant with the Southport Police Department. He currently operates a private investigation firm.
