FRANKLIN, Ind. — Franklin resident, Will Slinger, 30, pleaded guilty to the hit-and-run accident that seriously injured three people in January 2016. A judge handed the maximum sentence to Slinger of seven-and-a-half years. Slinger will serve four years in prison and three-and-a-half years on probation. He will also have to enter a substance abuse rehabilitation program and will be an habitual traffic offender.
Slinger was traveling at a high rate of speed when he slammed into a car sending it into oncoming traffic. The resulting impact seriously injured three people.
Slinger fled the scene and avoided police for months after the crash. He was captured in April 2016 after police released a surveillance photo that led to a tip.
His trial date was expedited after a heroin overdose two weeks ago. Slinger was convicted of three counts of leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury. He was taken immediately to prison after the proceedings.
