GREENWOOD, Ind. — Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers announced an extension of his downtown strategy Thursday during his State of the City address.
Myers wants to increase connectivity and add green space by redeveloping old Greenwood City Park in the heart of downtown. The proposal includes a redesign of Machledt Drive to accommodate pedestrians and bicycles and the extension the Pleasant Creek Trail to connect Craig Park and the Greenwood Amphitheater. Plans also include a tree-lined street connecting Surina Way to Market Plaza and replacing a 100-year-old sewer in the area.
The next redevelopment project will likely be the 19-acre site that was formerly Greenwood Middle School.
Mayor Myers says continuing to improve downtown is a priority. “Businesses look at amenities. They look at your downtown. They look at the viability of the community when they’re looking to land their business,” said Myers. “We want to put Greenwood at the top of the chart where they can see that we are a city on the move, we’re a city of pride and progress and we are progressing rapidly and doing a great job in adding new amenities all the time.”
