GREENWOOD, Ind. — A welfare check led to a drug arrest in Johnson County Tuesday.
Around 11:15 p.m., police received a report of a motorist possibly getting sick at the intersection of Smith Valley Road and Paddock Road. Minutes later, police observed the car weaving in traffic on eastbound Smith Valley Road, so they conducted a traffic stop. The driver, James Beatty, 19, did not appear to be intoxicated while being interviewed by police but a canine officer gave a positive indication to the presence of narcotics.
Beatty was asked to exit the vehicle and when he did, police noticed a bag of what appeared to be marijuana in the door frame. A search of the car uncovered another bag containing two white pills. Beatty was arrested and taken to the Johnson County Jail. While at the jail a second bag of marijuana was turned over to police by the suspect. Beatty has been charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.
