INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — United States Attorney Josh Minkler says a Greenwood resident has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for fraud and filing false tax returns.
According to court documents, Troy Sissom, 53, was working as a project manager when he diverted company funds to his personal account by using false invoices to his employer, F.A. Wilhelm Construction. In 2003, Sissom created a corporation named LTEE Source and rented a UPS mailbox under the same name. Over a 12-year period, he submitted 185 fake invoices under the LTEE name for payment. After his employer mailed the checks to his UPS mailbox he cashed them and used the money for his purposes. The estimated loss to F.A. Wilhelm Construction was over $2.7 million. The tax loss to the IRS topped $381,000.
“IRS-Criminal Investigation is committed to stopping criminals engaged in tax fraud,” said Special Agent in Charge of IRS-Criminal Investigation, James D. Robnett. “The investigation of Mr. Sissom proves no matter how hard criminals try to hide their fraud, IRS-CI special agents will uncover it.”
Sissom will have to serve at least two years of sentence. He is also required to make full restitution to the construction company and the IRS.
