INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indiana House of Representatives has approved a bill that would make the possession of a firearm by an illegal immigrant a level 6 felony. The crime would be punishable by up to 2.5 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Seymour Republican Jim Lucas says, “Individuals who are in Indiana illegally do not have the right to carry or possess firearms. There is currently no law in place to address this type of situation, and this bill would rectify that.”
The bill will now be sent to the governor’s office.
