GREENWOOD, Ind. – Greenwood City Council passed the first reading of the proposed Greenwood Iceplex 5-4 at its meeting Monday. The proposed location of the 115,000 sq. ft. facility is on six acres of Greenwood’s Freedom Park.
While some local residents are excited for a state of the art facility on the Southside, others have some concerns. Residents of Brighton Estates, the housing edition adjacent to the location of the proposed Greenwood Iceplex, attended the Greenwood City Council Meeting to express concerns in matching “Save Freedom Park” t-shirts. The group has created the website SaveFreedomPark.com.
After visiting other Indiana ice rinks to research concerns, Greenwood Police Chief John Laut reported no negative feedback from residents in those areas.
The second reading of the measure is set for the April 17 City Council meeting. The meeting will begin at 7:00 in the Greenwood City Building.
