COLUMBUS, Ind.–A local man is in custody after he allegedly ran from Columbus police officers on Saturday evening. Lt. Matt Harris of the Columbus Police Department says an officer attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle near 8th Street and Pearl Street. Moments later, the car’s passenger door opened as the vehicle slowed down, and according to the officer, a man exited the vehicle and began running on foot. The suspect continued running between houses in the 700 block of Pearl Street until he was stopped by the officer and taken into custody. The suspect was identified as Derek B. Woodson, 39, of Columbus. A short time later, CPD confirmed two outstanding warrants for his arrest. Woodson was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail for the previous warrants, resisting law enforcement, and possession of marijuana.
