SOUTHPORT, Ind. — A Johnson County reserve deputy was involved in the gunfight that took the life of Southport police officer Lt. Aaron Allan. According to Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox, one of his department’s officers was off-duty, wearing civilian clothes, and driving his personal vehicle when he came upon the scene of the accident on Madison Avenue. Initially stopping to render medical aid, the deputy found himself in the middle of gun fire soon afterward and returned fire with his personal firearm. Sheriff Cox said that following the Indianapolis Metro Police Department’s investigation, the officer will have a firearms review hearing at the Johnson County Sheriffs Department.
