SEYMOUR, Ind.–An officer with the Seymour Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of East Tipton and South Broadway Streets in Seymour for multiple driving infractions on Saturday night, but the driver refused to stop. Authorities at SPD say the car, driven by Benjamin Tipton, 36, of Seymour, immediately accelerated, fleeing eastbound on East Tipton Street. Officer Miller pursued the vehicle into Jennings County, where he says speeds reached in excess of 100 miles per hour. The pursuit eventually returned to Jackson County near East Tipton Street and U.S. 31., where police say they deployed stop sticks, disabling the vehicle and bringing the chase to a halt at the intersection of East Tipton Street and Marley Lane. At that time, officers took the suspect into custody without incident and charged Tipton with resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness, and misdemeanor reckless driving.
