ALABAMA (AP)–There was an upset last night in the special Senate race in Alabama to replace the vacancy left by current U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The Associated Press confirms that Democrat Doug Jones beat embattled Republican Roy Moore by 1.5 percentage points. Although Moore talked of a possible recount, Alabama state law calls for a recount only if the margin of victory is less than one-half of one percentage point. With all precincts reporting, Jones led by three times that margin. It was the first Democratic victory in a Senate contest in a quarter-century in Alabama.
