COLUMBUS, Ind.–A former Columbus resident has been honored as a 2018 Pulitzer Prize winner. Erika Espinoza was part of a team that won the prize for Explanatory Reporting. She was one of two designers on The Arizona Republic and USA Today Network team that created “The Wall,” a 2017 special report about President Trump’s proposed border wall.
According to a journalism lecturer, Erika interned for three years with The Arizona Republic and was so well-loved by her coworkers that she was hired to work remotely for the publication after her internship. She is also the first Ball State University graduate to win a Pulitzer Prize.
