COLUMBUS, Ind.–The 1980s-themed CAP Adult Prom was pretty rad this past Saturday night at The Commons. The event raised funds for the Child Abuse Prevention program of Family Service Inc., and collected over $35,000 to support the organization’s mission. Specifically, the money goes toward increasing awareness efforts within the community, providing scholarships to families in need of parenting classes, and funding other services provided to families.
The Child Abuse Prevention Program includes:
• Kids on the Block Program which helps equip children with the skills to recognize, report and protect themselves in difficult situations, including physical and sexual abuse.
• PBIS Bully Prevention Program which teaches kids how to stand up for themselves in a non-violent manner, how to respect and accept themselves, and others.
• Training Hours for professionals, parents, foster parents, child care providers, youth and other targeted audiences.
• Community or classroom presentations for professionals, parents, foster parents, child care providers, youth and other targeted audiences.
• Stewards of Children Sexual Abuse Prevention training for community members to empower adults in preventing child sexual abuse. The vision is to have a world where children can grow up happy, healthy, and safe.
• Caring Parents which is an evidence-based birthing center providing bedside education of Period of Purple Crying at Columbus Regional Health, Schneck & Major Hospitals to prevent Shaken Baby Syndrome.
