COLUMBUS, Ind.–The city of Columbus will commemorate a fallen hometown hero as a part of the State Street Corridor Project this weekend. Council member Dascal Bunch tells Local News Digital that the newly-constructed green space at the intersection of Indiana Street and State Street will be dedicated to the memory of Sgt. Jonathon Hunter, who was killed while serving with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan. His father, Mark, lives nearby in the east side neighborhood. Bunch says the city plans to place a plaque honoring Hunter in the seating area of the green space.
The dedication ceremony is set for this Saturday, at 11 a.m. Mayor Jim Lienhoop and Bunch will speak at the event. The American Legion honor guard will conduct a brief service in Hunter’s honor.
