FRANKLIN, Ind.–Franklin Community Schools (FCS) continues its investigation into possible contamination of Needham and Webb Elementary Schools. Director of operations Jeff Sewell attended a meeting between the city, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, the Indiana Department of Health, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency last Thursday.
The school system also announced it had hired independent firm, EnviroForensics, to carry out environmental testing and study air quality at the school buildings. The evaluation is to be completed before the start of the new school year. While FCS was encouraged to learn efforts by the Environmental Protection Agency have been underway for years to control the hazardous situation at the old Amphenol Corporation property, authorities say they have chosen to move forward with their own contractor as well.
Franklin Community Schools will update the school community again next Thursday, in the event that more information has become available.
