COLUMBUS, Ind.–Two new patrolmen have officially joined the Columbus Police Department. Columbus native Kyle Weaver and former Georgia resident Andrew Celik were inducted by Mayor Jim Lienhoop at Tuesday’s Board of Public Works and Safety meeting. Both men will receive preliminary training in Columbus before heading to the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in October.
Weaver was a member of the 2015 graduating class of Columbus East High School and also graduated from Ivy Tech Community College in 2016. He led the Columbus Police Department Cadet Program as squad leader, and until recently served with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department as a corrections officer.
Celik graduated from Westside High School in Macon, Georgia, in 2010, and then joined the United States Navy where he worked as a Damage Controlman. After being honorably discharged, Celik attended Ivy Tech Community College.
