COLUMBUS, Ind.—Columbus Police Department officers and members of the local SWAT team responded to a standoff situation on the north side of Columbus on Tuesday afternoon. The encounter began when dispatch received a call about a family disturbance on Aspen Lane. Police say a man told them he was able to escape the home after fighting with an armed family member who was still inside the home when the relative left, according to Lt. Matt Harris with CPD.
Several hours ticked by before the authorities were able to make contact by phone with the man thought to be inside the home. As it turned out, the suspect had left the residence shortly before the officers arrived and he was not in the house during the standoff.
Harris adds that the incident is under investigation, but the man at the center of the standoff does not face criminal charges at this time.
