COLUMBUS, Ind.–A Bartholomew County resident had an unusual brush with law enforcement Tuesday afternoon. The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office says Tony Gibson, 56, of Elizabethtown, was caught red-handed using a wheelbarrow to collect scrap metal and railroad spikes from the tracks along the 1600 block of Jonesville Road.
Officers located Gibson’s truck, which had already been loaded with various steel and metal items, on Louisville and Indiana Railroad property. Gibson supposedly admitted to law enforcement that he did not have permission to take the items, securing his arrest. Drug paraphernalia was also allegedly found in his truck.
Deputies transported Gibson to the Bartholomew County Jail and charged him with theft, criminal trespass, and possession of paraphernalia.
