TRAFALGAR, Ind.–A woman is behind bars after a traffic mishap on State Road 135 near Trafalgar on Sunday evening. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says that Kelly Johnson, 42, of Morgantown, was traveling in her car behind a motorcycle driven by Wayne Fields, 52, of Connersville. Fields and his passenger-wife, Krista, 40, told authorities that Johnson eventually got so close to the motorcycle that she hit the bike, causing the occupants to be thrown onto the pavement.
Officers contend that Johnson was uncooperative, would not identify herself, and refused a blood draw. Law enforcement says when they tried to take her into custody, she repeatedly pulled away from deputies and attempted to run away until she was finally apprehended and placed in a cruiser bound for Johnson Memorial Health.
A blood draw was taken after a search warrant was obtained and Johnson was later booked into the Johnson County Jail, charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and minor traffic citations.
Wayne and Krista Fields were transported to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
