FRENCH LICK, Ind.–While construction on the State Road 46 railroad overpass in Columbus might not have started yet, the city has already earned recognition for its work on the project. Mayor Jim Lienhoop and city engineer Dave Hayward were presented with the Accelerate Indiana Municipalities (Aim) Local Government Cooperation Award at the Aim Ideas Summit Annual Awards Luncheon in French Lick on Wednesday.
Columbus was recognized for working with the county, state, Cummins, and INDOT on the project. The nine-member panel of judges selects communities and individuals for the award who have displayed excellence and outstanding achievement in local government.
“Local governments have a long history of working together,” said Aim CEO Matt Geller. “What I believe makes the Columbus project so special is that it also includes the State of Indiana as a key collaborator.”
